How to Take Care of Your Fire Pit

Blue Sky fire pits have some pretty special features to create that roaring smoke free fire we’re always talking about. Our durable, highly efficient designs are made to handle smoke free burns achieving 1,400°F (760°C) or more. That's pretty hot! So, we want to share some of our best tips to take care of your fire pit and keep it burning bright for years to come. 

After the fire

Allow the flames to die down on their own. This is the safest way to extinguish the fire. It also allows the fire pit to eliminate as much ash and wood particles as possible. We do not recommend extinguishing the fire with water, unless it is an emergency. Using water can result in excessive steam and smoke and can even cause damage to the structure and finish of the fire pit. Let the pit cool completely before handling, moving, or cleaning it out. 

Cleaning out the ash catch

All of our smoke free fire pits are designed with an ash catch system to make cleanup easy. Depending on what type of wood or material you burn in your high efficiency fire pit, there should be little ash leftover after the burn. Be sure to clean out the ash regularly, especially if you live in a humid climate.

Dump the ash from the ash catch tray and make sure there is no leftover material clogging the grate. Always clean out the ashes from your Blue Sky fire pit before storing it. 

When not in use

Our fire pits are coated in a high temperature powder paint finish, so they should not be left out in the elements. Maintaining your fire pit

Although our fire pits are painted with a high temperature paint, the finish of your fire pit may change over time due to the high temperatures produced by the efficient burn. With use and time, you may want to refresh your fire pit with touchups of high temperature paint if desired. If you plan to go long periods of time without using your fire pit, store it indoors or in a covered area.
